City Park Jazz 2018

Another summer, another City Park Jazz Festival! One of the benefits of living in Park Hill is close proximity to City Park, home to an annual Jazz in the Park event. Jyemo Club

Jyemo Club has arrived! The new project from Jonny Jyemo brings together musicians from 4 different countries, each bringing their own flavor to spice up the vibes. This is dance music to celebrate life, this is dance music with a rebel attitude. Uniting Latin and Caribbean beats with north American funk and rock, singing in English and Spanish, Jyemo Club is here to jam the radios and sound systems of the world. Busta Music!

Always led by Hazel and her powerful voice, this audience favorite has appeared in countless festivals, concerts and fundraisers to the delight of her loyal fans. Hazel is always backed by some of the finest musicians and vocalists in the world.

Founded in 1991, Harmony: a Colorado chorale is Denver metro and Northern Colorado’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight ally voice all-inclusive choir.  Committed to embracing and inspiring an inclusive community through song, the 70-member plus choir performs two-to-three major concerts each year. Badda Boom Brass Band is a 9 piece New Orleans style brass band who blend the second line street music tradition of the Crescent City with elements of funk, rock, hip hop, pop and world music for a truly unique sound! Founded in 2015 in Denver, Colorado, they are the house band for the Thin Man Tavern and bring the party wherever they go with a versatility that spans parades, street corners, festival stages and everything in between. Their aim in life is to make you shake that booty!

Paa Kow

Having toured internationally, sharing stages with both African and American luminaries including Kojo Antwi, Hugh Masekela and Victor Wooten, Ghana born drummer and composer, Paa Kow, (pronounced Pah-Ko), has recently produced his third studio album entitled Cookpot. The album takes listeners on a journey that boldly explores the music of the African Diaspora by fusing Ghanaian highlife with elements of jazz, funk, and African pop to create his unique Afro-Fusion sound set apart by its “flexibility and finesse” (Modern Ghana).

La Pompe Jazz & Friends

La Pompe Jazz is a Denver band est. 2013. Inspired by a love of classic “Hot Club” style jazz, they are a group of musicians from Denver sharing an exploration of Gypsy jazz, blues, and American jazz standards with their own interpretations. They have become a fixture of the local swing dance scene with regular performances at many of the top dance nights. La Pompe Jazz has also brought their music to a wide range of audiences in their performances at the Five Points Jazz Festival, the 1940s Ball, Swallow Hill, the Underground Music Showcase, and the Westword Music Showcase – where they were honored to receive the Producer’s Choice Award.

Pat Bianchi Trio

Two-time grammy nominated organist and winner of Downbeat Magazine’s 2016 rising star poll Pat Bianchi, has established himself as one of the principal organists on the scene today. His command of the instrument, harmonic prowess, rhythmic intensity and versatility are rivaled by few. His most recent release, A Higher Standard featuring Byron Landham and Craig Ebner, exemplifies Bianchi’s superiority and finesse in the organ trio setting, bringing jazz standards to a completely ‘higher’ level. When Pat is not leading his own trio, he performs regularly with jazz guitar icon, Pat Martino. Bianchi also continues to perform with NEA Jazz Master and saxophone legend, Lou Donaldson.

Mistura Fina Band

Mistura Fina was founded by percussionist Frank Ayala in 2000 and is currently co-led with saxophonist Alex Nekrasov. Based in Denver, the group regularly performs concerts at festivals, nightclubs, special events, and other venues. It’s critically acclaimed recording, A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That, is a representation of Mistura Fina’s various musical influences.

The Sammy Mayfield Blues Band

Sam Mayfield’s long and rich musical history during which the multi-talented guitarist/ singer/ songwriter has performed with many great blues luminaries as Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton. Blues Veteran Sam Mayfield started playing the blues early in the 1960’s.

In Europe, New York and Los Angeles, rhythm and blues guitarist/vocalist Sammy Mayfield made a name for himself during a three-decade stint as the musical director for legendary soul and gospel shouter Solomon Burke. But in Denver, where Mayfield was raised, he’s one of the city’s premier bluesmen.

Chris Daniels and the Kings with Freddi Gowdy

Chris Daniels & the Kings (now with Freddi Gowdy) are celebrating their 33rd year with a new album BLUES WITH HORNS!

Doing more than 120 dates per year touring over two continents, Daniels and his band have been invited to appear in such diverse places as The Down Home Blues Festival in South Carolina, The Bob Hope Chrysler Desert Classic, The Curacao Swing Festival (South America), and all over Europe. Chris was inducted into the COLORADO MUSIC HALL OF FAME in 2013 with Judy Collins and he has appeared with the Garth Brooks, B.B. King, Vince, Gill, Amy Grant, Joe Walsh, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Oates, The Luminieers, Uncle Cracker, Blues Traveler, The Neville Brothers, and the list goes on.

Special Guest: Tivoli Brass Band

Traditional brass band instrumentation interpreting well known tunes in the down and dirty brass band style.

The Tivoli Club is comprised of musicians from some of Denver’s most celebrated bands. Members include those from the Alpha Schoolmarm Orchestra, FaceMan, Filthy Children, Judge Roughneck, Lost Dog Ensemble, Mlima, Money Plays 8, New York Street Boys, Playground Ensemble and many others. The repertoire is a smorgasbord spanning from Kendrick Lamar to Garth Brooks with a little Hava Nagila on the side, all interpreted in a way that only a 9-piece brass band can achieve.
